Peugeot Boxer Campervan Conversion
In early 2020 we wondered about converting a van into a campervan. Then Lockdown (1) happened and we couldn’t do anything about it. By October we decided to go for it, and bought the van, which has kept us busy through Lockdowns 2 and 3. Here’s some pictures of progress so far.
The van before we did anything to it We used cardboard boxes and things to work out where we wanted things to go Cutting the first hole in the van was a bit nerve-wracking (now we are used to it!) The window went in fine! The second window was comparatively easy Fitting the water tanks involved a lot of crawling around on the floor under the van trying to do up bolts. This was the second hole in the roof, for the bathroom skylight, we also fitted an extractor fan at the rear. Boarding the floor with plywood (and celotex insulation) Since the toilet and shower were raised up we made the rest of the floor go around them We stuck plywood strips to the van’s roof which support the ceiling. The bracket is to support an overhead locker. We fitted pine tongue and groove strips to the ceiling after insulating with celotex. You can also see the extractor fan and wires for the lights Greta is learning to be a “van dog”. We still need to do the fiddly bits at the edges The walls are covered with vinyl flooring stuck with special spray glue. This was frustrating to fit so we didn’t take many pictures of the process. Doing this on a cold day didn’t help. We had to heat the vinyl with a hairdryer to get it soft enough to cut at the edges. Floor complete! Greta “helping” Amy make the cushion covers We have two leisure batteries which can be charged from mains, solar, or the van’s alternator while we are driving. Connecting all the circuits for lights and other 12V appliances results in a lot of cables connected to the junction box – a work in progress. Amy’s Christmas present was a pyrography tool which she has used to decorate the bathroom door. The shower is fitted! Fridge unit under construction
